About Guide My Ride

Robyn Maddison founded Guide My Ride in 2024 to share his experiences of riding in the Alps with other passionate bikers who cherish the love of motorcycling and the thrill of the journey.

The aim is to provide carefully created tours allowing you to forget the lengthy organisation and planning stress that comes with a motorcycle trip. Simply turn up and ride.

Based in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, which is part of the Les Arcs resort, Guide My Ride’s pre-designed motorcycle tours are operated from a beautiful, comfortable chalet base. The chalet accommodation will be your home-from-home throughout your motorcycle holiday.

Each outing, you'll embark on a different loop through the Alps and return to the chalet, where you can relax and enjoy a freshly prepared meal.

Bourg Saint Maurice is centrally situated in the Tarentaise valley, making it easy to explore the many renowned mountain passes and charming towns via exciting winding roads that branch off in every direction.

On all of Guide My Ride’s motorcycle tours, you will be expertly guided over many of the epic mountain passes of the Alps, known locally as ‘cols’, offering you stunning views of lakes, valleys, mountains, and forests in every direction.

During your outings, Robyn will share his favourite spots for tasty, local cuisine, ensuring you are well fed. From delicious warm pastries during coffee stops to traditional cheese and meat dishes at lunch, you can enjoy the many hearty delicacies that the region has to offer.

Your Motorcycle Tour Guide

My love of motorcycles is so strong, as it is closely associated with the freedom all teens experience when they first get their licence. I had a handful of motorcycles growing up and would ride them everywhere, from college to the local meets on a Sunday evening.

I have extremely fond memories of my Honda VT 250 Spada edition. The Honda is the motorcycle with which I did my training with the Thames Vale Advanced Motorcyclist. I learnt a lot from these guys and would recommend joining a motorcycling club to anyone, whether it's to improve skills or just to find some more riding buddies.

Robyn, who has lived in the Tarentaise valley since 2010, knows the area exceptionally well, having explored almost every single road. It is with this desire to share his knowledge of the region with other riders that Robyn began Guide My Ride.

Robyn Maddison

Robyn is a fun-loving, English-born seasoned motorcycle rider and qualified guide who made the French Alps his home, after travelling the world.

Robyn is not only a passionate motorcycle tour guide but also a devoted family man. Proud father to two children, he balances his love for the open road with a commitment to home life. When he’s not guiding motorcycle riders through the spectacular Alpine passes, you’ll find him spending quality time with his family, tinkering with his bikes in the garage or scouting new routes.

Robyn’s Biking Background

In 2010, Robyn’s local roads changed from those of south-east England to the mountainous valleys of the French Alps, Europe.

Since then, Robyn has explored everything the Alps have to offer on two wheels, from the classics to the hidden gems. It’s with this knowledge that he has created his favourite routes, which he shares with you on the Guide My Ride motorcycle tours.

A Bold Move to the French Alps

Robyn’s passion for motorcycling began aged five, on a PW 50cc, in a muddy field in Bracknell.

A love born from generations, Robyn’s dad rode bikes whilst Robyn was growing up. Through much persuasion from father and son, Robyn’s mum eventually allowed Robyn to ride pillion with his dad.

The pillion moment sealed Robyn’s desire to get his own licence, which he gained at age 16. Now able to join his dad on trips around the countryside on his own bike, they spent many Sundays riding together.

Evenings were often spent together as father and son in the garage, stripping down components of his classic Yamaha FS1-E, then putting them back together again. And so, Robyn also discovered a love for mechanics and a desire to understand how all things work.

Over the following years, Robyn developed a serious interest in anything on two wheels, both on road and off-road. He would watch any form of racing on TV, from MotoGP, World Superbike, and British Superbike, to the Suzuka 8-hour. Or visit live events, including the infamous Isle of Man TT.
