The Route des Grandes Alpes by motorcycle is one of France's most legendary riding adventures, stretching from Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean Sea through the heart of the French Alps. Cover over 700 kilometres, riding many of France's highest and most famous mountain passes, including the Col de l'Iseran, Col du Galibier, and Col de la Bonette. google mapsDAY 1 - ARRIVAL DAY - GENEVA
Your Classic Alps Motorcycle Tour starts here! Take the day to travel to our comfortable, motorcycle friendly accommodation near Geneva airport.
DAY 2 - GENEVA - BOURG SAINT MAURICE
Departing Geneva we make our way North to Thonon-Les-Bains, the historic start point for the Route des Grands Alpes. Heading South we ride the Col de la Colombiére, Col des Aravis and Cormet de Roselend, where we descend to our overnight base, Bourg Saint Maurice.
DAY 3 - BOURG SAINT MAURICE - GUILLESTRE
From Bourg Saint Maurice, we head back into the mountains to ride one of Europe’s highest mountain passes, the Col de l’Iseran. This day’s riding also includes the Col du Galibier and Col d’Izoard before reaching our destination of Guillestre.
DAY 4 - GUILLESTRE - MENTON
Guillestre is our start point from where we ride the Col de la Cayolle followed by a trio of mountain passes; the Col de Valberg, Col de Ste Anne and Col de la Couillole. We finish this mountain pass-packed day with the Col de Turini and overnight in Menton
DAY 5 - REST DAY IN MENTON
Rest days are important to offer that perfect balance of ride time and relaxation, so that you can make the most of your holiday. Take some free time to explore Menton and the surrounding area, with or without your motorcycle, make the most of nearby activities or simply relax at your hotel.
DAY 6 - MENTON - EMBRUN
Refreshed from our rest day, we begin the journey North over the Col de la Bonette and take the balcony road around beautiful Lac de Serre-Poncon. We end the day at Embrun.
DAY 7 - EMBRUN - SAINT FRANCOIS LONGCHAMP
After leaving Embrun we continue North passing over the Col de Montgenévre, briefly into Italy. The Col du Mont Cenis brings us back into France, where we begin our ascent of the Col de la Madeleine, stopping in the ski resort town of Saint Francois Longchamp, our evening base.
DAY 8 - SAINT FRANCOIS LONGCHAMP - GENEVA
On this penultimate day, we continue our ascent of the Col de la Madeleine from Saint Francois Longchamp. Our final leg of the tour takes in several lesser known mountain passes in the Lake Annecy area, including the Col du Marais. We return to Geneva.
DAY 9 - GENEVA - DEPARTURE DAY
Enjoy a final breakfast together at our motorcycle friendly accommodation near Geneva airport, then it’s time to say goodbye and until next time!
